A southerly was blowing, a cloudy sky overhead, and the flags were set for a Course 2 and an ‘All Boats’ start (div 1 & 3 together). Breeze was moderate and good that is, right up until a minute out from start where a lull caught most of the fleet well behind the start line. As the hooter sounded Still Festering was the only one crossing the line and catching a nice gust that pulled it away from the rest of the fleet, while Axis of Evil and the League OEG followed in hot pursuit

With our sheethand Barry who writes our race reports not sailing for 2 weeks means I have to write it. After getting the start wrong and being a bit late starting the rest of the race went well. With a gusty southerly blowing it made for fun spinnaker run's but with S.F and L.O.E.G not setting spinnakers we were able to stay in touch with them. After reading last week’s report re Pat and his no ice episode, I was beside myself with laughter, How could this occur, 2 people 2 bags of ice and both left behind, Well things happens in 3 and Pats week of bad luck had just begun!
A keen 15knot easterly greeted us for the first leg to Lukes, low tide 4.09pm, no3 jib sailing, perfect conditions.
At the start FGO hit the line on time and with speed like a bat out of hell and footed fast across the river on starboard, pursued by RBO to windward and then XWP with AFB unusually lagging a bit, short-handed. |
