Again the normal 3 combatant’s lined up for battle on Saturday awaiting the 13:30 gun to begin. Still Festering with sail maker on board hoping for a 2nd headsail breeze so he could view his new creation on The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen a wish that was granted for just before the 5min gun the new headsail was hoisted.
The Axis Of Evil was awaiting their world traveller to return from yet another venture only to be disappointed as this traveller{Barry who} was not on board.Communication of his arrival may have been misinterpreted or Captain Stubing was running late to deliver this Barry who’s much anticipated return into the yachting arena. Anyway 2 up the boys on AOE prepared for the days engagement.
The start was shaping up for a 3 boat duel until SF went to deploy their headsail and much to the delight of the other 2 boats it only ½ unrolled .SF heading down wind away from the starting line trying to arrest the situation while LEOG & AOE lined up for yet another battle for starting honours. Yet another gear malfunction of this headsail roller on SF giving the other 2 boats an extra minute start much to the angst of it skipper and crew, The start as always was a torrid affair with only 2 boats at the line they still managed a little spar at starting time with the LEOG gaining the upper hand over the 2 manned AOE. SF was slowly gaining as the other 2 boats duelled allowing for small gains to be made for the bigger boat. Around Searle’s SF grabbed the AOE and set off after the LEOG passing them near Gladesville Bridge only to be retaken by the LEOG again setting the scene for the day. A tacking duel for trip to Shark Island ensued with little between the 2 Adams. Our sailmaker very pleased with the new sail on LEOG albeit keeping them to close for the SF crew. The three boats battled hard all the way to Shark with SF rounding 1st closely followed by LEOG and that 2 manned craft AOE 3rd. Spinnakers hoisted for the trip back to PRSC where positions stayed the same with a dying breeze making life just a little frustrating. At Gladesville Bridge our fleet merged with the Concord Ryde sailing club fleet making navigation a little tricky as we all did not want to impede on the smaller craft. Safely through with no issues to record so a nice job by all of our club fleet. And just when you thought it safe to cross the road the 12ft sprint series was being hosted by Abbotsford 12ft club on the river this also was keeping all on their toes with these skiffs zooming around.
All home safe with the positions for scratch remaining the same with SF .greeting the finishing gun 1st then LEOG 2nd AOE 3rd. Handicap mirrored the scratch with the margin between 2nd & 3rd being only 2 seconds. If the who made 3 would this have made that minute time gain needed.
See you all on the water next week SF
