Saturday’s weather saw a light SE breeze leading to the regular discussion of which jig to choose. With some fresh gusts coming through we settled on the number 2 jib. The breeze was around 10 knots coming in from the SE but tending ESE and occasionally swinging back South to make it interesting.

A southerly was blowing, a cloudy sky overhead, and the flags were set for a Course 2 and an ‘All Boats’ start (div 1 & 3 together). Breeze was moderate and good that is, right up until a minute out from start where a lull caught most of the fleet well behind the start line. As the hooter sounded Still Festering was the only one crossing the line and catching a nice gust that pulled it away from the rest of the fleet, while Axis of Evil and the League OEG followed in hot pursuit
With our sheethand Barry who writes our race reports not sailing for 2 weeks means I have to write it. After getting the start wrong and being a bit late starting the rest of the race went well. With a gusty southerly blowing it made for fun spinnaker run's but with S.F and L.O.E.G not setting spinnakers we were able to stay in touch with them. First race back after the festive season and everyone was still seemingly in holiday mode, or at least partially influenced - but shouldn’t speak for others. Huey the wind god was fully hung over and had a total shocker as was clearly evidenced throughout the afternoon no matter where on the harbour you were – the wind frequently coming from 3 directions at once, at 4 strengths……..the unrequested input mate is that if you’re going to put in another wind effort like that this season it’s best to hand over to your 2IC and have a well needed rest, better still don’t come back leave it to him. Thanks in advance.

The day began with the prediction of a strong south to south east breeze which never really got up to the predicted 15 to 20 kts.The normal 3 antagonists from div 1 rocked up all in good spirits after the xmas break. Gladesville Public School, Class 2/3KM, Homework, Term 4, Week 8.
