Summer lovin, had me a blast.....
Are these special trophy races a blast or what? And BT just keeps on giving…. Just a sublime day to be out on the water and out in the harbour. And she just gets quicker and better, and so do the crew.
I think Barry on AOE took his angry pills before the start and had to have a yell at us when they were on starboard take but we were able to get through unscathed.
More action down to Gladesville and through the fleet of trailer sailors near Cockatoo, with one fella giving us water then quickly tacking back to starboard to keep us on our toes and our vocal chords hot…
We followed LOEG and AOE until they got away under the bridge but the newbies, Black Velvet and Rant and Rave were gaining after cautious starts. We got around FD on starboard tack just with some concerned faces as the depth was getting less. Another tack and we are on course for Shark Island.
Coming back we see SF, RSGT, AOE and LOEG all flying their kites. Quite majestic really. Unfortunately, BV and RnR headed around Clarke Is and we didn’t see them again.
Back to earth as some Muppet in a big boat and not racing wanted to play games heading up to the north of Shark Is. We headed back for the run home and hoisted the black dog but more spinnaker problems befall us. The bag is not clipped properly and catches the kite. Then the sheets are on the wrong way on the winches. All fixed and its up and running but time for a jibe.
We now have the lazy sheet and brace system and it works except lines have disappeared under the boat. It takes a while and we sort it out for Cockatoo and then another jibe passed snapper. We ran the kite all the way home with a few more jibes and all went smoothly.
Someone decided to spray champagne at the finish and we clinked plastic glasses in celebration on a happy couple and a great result.
Thanks to the club again for a great course and thanks to all the people who volunteer in the club. Well done.
