In weather you wouldn’t put your cat outside in, the coldest November weekend for 16 years, the usual (but less 2 boats) suspects lined up – us in RGT, SF after a very late exit off their mooring to just make the start, AOE and BT. LOEG is one week away from returning so that’s good, and NL is hopefully back soon. Thankfully the (light) rain stopped just before the start but started again right on the finish. The temperature remained constant all day at shivering.
To Morrisons was a good kite run and we seemed to stretch out a tad. BT looked great with kite running down and a potential hcap place looked more than probable.
To H+C then back to Morrisons, back to H+C where with the wind increasing SF and AOE both closed more than a bit – AOE changed up to mhead kite in a very good effort sailing 2 up.
Good kite run back to Morrisons the last time, recovered well from a gnarly gybe onto stbd off east Cabarita (thanks Len for the post-race confirmation), then turned for Abbotsford then to the finish. SF went well on this last time to Morrisons and back to Abbotsford in the building breeze was really looming – we just held them to the mark but they gybed inside us and glided to the finish 27s in front.
So after leading around all marks we settled for 2nd scratch, followed in by a very fast finishing AOE and BT. Hcaps were RGT, AOE and BT - the latter in a top effort and more and better will come for them.
Congrats to AOE for the series win with 3 heats, SF 2nd in the series with a heat, RGT 3rd with 2 heats, BT 4th.
A great day was finished off including warming back up with a medicinal ale or more, with the club dinner superbly hosted by LOEG as always. For sure it is impossible to beat a T-bone (but obviously not on the race course due to a port and starboard or other manoeuvre) plus snags and salad of every type, plus fruit salad and ice cream - many thanks Carl, Brian and team that was more than sublime including the effort even on the boat’s day off.
Next Sat is Special Trophies Race 3, don’t be late.
