Starters for today are Len and Karen and they are at the club early.
On the AOE, Jim is unable to join us today as domestic home duties has him replacing the kitchen for his beloved. We have recruited wisely though, today we are sailing with the old master himself, Jim Sin of Abbotsford and skipper extraordinaire.

After setting up the boat a few practice tacks are carried out so we can get the feel of the maestros magic hands and quick wit, not to mention quicker tacks! Speed is up front and is happy as a boy in a lolly shop, pulling and tweaking ropes with lighting speed. I am sitting in the middle nursing a sore head after not moving quick enough and copping the boom! I had never realised what a nice skipper Speed was until today when memories of Sumo throwing the boat about with little notice came back with a vengeance. Those bloody 12 foot skiff sailors never change!
All is settled quickly with quality rehydration done and the starters hoist course no 1 flag up the pole which sends us to Gladesville and then back to Morrison Bay under spinnaker.
The start is uneventful with LOEG charging off down the river with great boat speed. We are close by, but Pat on Still Festering, and team Resurrgent, decide to hold their own start about a minute behind. Interesting listening to the discussions on each boat ! :)
Still Festering is charging and takes us at the Abbotsford point Bend. LOEG is sailing well but SF is chasing hard, with a near complete crew sees the tacks being quick and efficient. We get a perfect view of the dual that is occurring in front of us, SF wins the race to the first mark and rounds 1 second in front of LOEG.
The kites go up and the chase begins to Morrison Bay, we are not far behind the boys and girls with team Resurgent's closing in on us. Pat steers well around the mark and makes it to back to Abbotsford with out a tack as the breeze tracks NNE. Unfortunately not so LOEG and the barrel chested men of the mighty AOE who get the NE treatment and are forced into multiple tacks.
Rounding mark 5 at the bottom of Abbotsford Bay SF decides on a 2 sail reach whereas LOEG and AOE race across the river before setting the kite for the tight reach to France Bay. The positions do not change as we round the mark and head back to Gladesville mark 6. SF rounds and "attempts" a spinnaker set we pass them to port (as we head to 6) about half way between the bridge and the mark.
We comment on what a shame it is when things go wrong with your friend. LOEG are round the mark and set the kite, we now believe we may have a chance today. A beer is called for once the kite is set and motoring us to Mark 3 in France Bay. The guys on Resurgent are chasing hard so we can not slow down. Again we round Sydney Rowers and see SF at Mark 3 and LOEG not far behind. The race is not over cries the skipper and sets us up for a good kite drop which occurs.
Racing to the line we get a lovely NNE lift allows us to sail to the finish line with out tacking. Well done Jim Sin, great to see Speed back up front pulling the ropes. The bad part about writing these report is knowing you just blew 3 minutes of you handicap. Critical when sailing with big boys.
