Last saturday saw the first handicap race in this Autumn season in a NE 8-16 knots . First off the mark Windfalls had a 4 minute advantage over XWP. First stage of the race was WF holding the lead in the uphill stages and then around mark 6 the downwind stage that has seen the boats with spinnakers race away was upon us.
Well, WF continued to hold, noting that XWP seemed to be catching WF crew had a confab about the whisker pole, but without Mel onboard it was decided to leave it for that stage. WF was exciting the crowd on the club balcony, who had never seen WF in front of the fleet before!!
Where was Farrago, Roustabout, and whoa who was catching WF now…. it was Firefly! Still the competition was with XWP, on the second downwind XWP failed to raise a spinnaker while WF deployed their whisker pole in what was surely a world record time, and pulled away from their chasers!
The finish was a spectacular photo with roustabout, WF almost entering the sailing club before tacking just over the line.
