We were greeted by a glorious Sydney day. Winds were light at only 4 or 5 knots so were a little surprised to see the Long Course flag flying. As it turned out Peter and Carmel were right to keep to the program and send us to the harbour. With Barry at the helm, and James and I trimming our number 1 light genoa we set off across the line for our 1pm start on the long trip to Taylors Bay. Wind Falls had a good start just ahead of us with Xena a little way back. With just the three in our fleet we sailed ahead we did not see them again until the finish of the race. The breeze built to a very comfortable 8 knots from the East and we enjoyed the work to the harbour. We don’t see our fleet but there were plenty of other racers and vessels to negotiate. Still Festering passed us by Drummoyne Point and Rob on Resurgent came past by the ferry wharf, tacking away rather than rolling over us. Up the harbour we encountered a large very slow moving war ship that kept us well to the north side.
By the time we rounded Tayors Bay the breeze had built further but still provided a very comfortable long run home. The only semblance of a tussle was to see how long we could keep Festering behind us as she stormed home from South Head. It took her until Drummoyne Point to overtake us. Pat did give us the courtesy to come through below. Finishing order was Farrago, Xena and Wind Falls and that’s how the handicaps positions went too.
