For this Harbour race there were two contenders in division 3, Xena Warrior Princess, and Windfalls. The blustery weather delivered 25 knot NE bullets interspersed with 5 knot lulls and having misread the “silent” start Windfalls found herself chasing down Xena Warrior Princess, before catching her near Gladesville bridge and built a moderate lead. Then came the the crowd of fleet racers of all size and shapes around Cockatoo island as fleets from several clubs came together, and it was during the chaos that Xena managed to regain her lead and skip away, with Windfalls in pursuit. After rounding Fort Denison Windfalls steadily gained on Xena, helped by some big bursts of Wind energy and despite a few skirmishes with racing 12 footers Windfalls regained the lead by Spectacle island and proceeded to build a significant lead for the home stretch. Xena desperate to catch finally deployed her sleek purple spinnaker, alas to no avail. Windfalls winner by 400 meters! It was an exciting day on the water and the stronger wind certainly favoured Windfalls.
