Div 3 - Spring Series - Race 3

26/9/2017

It was a warm sunny Saturday and all were ready for some reasonable winds predicted between 10-20 knots . We waited till  10 minutes prior to start to make a call on the right Headsail for the race ( bit earlier than last week ) and skipper said we need the No 1 headsail. The breeze was lighter than expected only around 10 knots . Anne decides a West course for the day . All boats gathering round the clubhouse for race start .......
We go off together heading for No1  - Farrago , Snowgoose and Xena with A Fine Balance coming up the rear .

Barry makes way well with many decent knocks up to the first mark with Snowgoose chasing well .

The other contenders Xena and A Fine Balance chasing .

Back down to 5 we see in the distance Farrago and close behind Snowgoose and A Fine Balance in the mix, but wait Snowgoose turns left for no 6 mark instead,  allowing Farrago and A Fine Balance to get away .This also allows Xena time to get around 5 before her also, as we have a great line to the mark .

Back up to 2 as we near the club and see Farrago in the Div 1 race again. We continue to 2 and round Cabarita to  set the spinnaker down to 4 . We start catching back up to  the leading bunch  but then get a big knock and have to drop the spinnaker , then we fall in a hole but soon recover down to 4 .

We get a great run up to the cabarita marina and round the point catching up to  Snowgoose .
She gets a better run for a few minutes but we gain on her whilst we have our afternoon muffins, coming up with her just  in front as the top mark .

We start our run back to 5 Snowgoose is  in front but we look up from our  straight run to clear cabarita , clubhouse and abbotsford pts but wait WHAT DO WE SEE ON THE ROCKS AT CABARITA  ……Snowgoose stuck but as  we slip past , they edge her off and chase us down to 5 .

We round 5 and yes skipper says time for the purple spinnaker again to the line , we head straight for Sydney Rowers end of the line, accelerating just enough to get away from Snowgoose round the point and across the line by about 1-2 minutes .

The results are
Line
1. Farrago
2. A Fine balance
3. Xena
4.Snowgoose

Handicap results
1. Xena
2. Farrago
3. A Fine Balance

Great race all
Only 25 seconds between Farrago and AFB well done !
And we've  enjoyed another sail and good stoush with Snowgoose .

Two major errors on Snowgoose. 1) incorrect course 2) parking the boat on the Cabarita rocks. Anyway when Snowgoose was sailing we were very pleased with her speed. We are looking forward to the long race on Saturday
