We were greeted by a pleasant ENE breeze, however as the day went on it built to become fresh moving between NE and East. A fleet of six boats lined up in Division 3, Farrago, A Fine Balance, Xena Warrior Princess, Wind Falls, Firefly and an ever improving Memphis.
Barry got us off to a cracking good start and we soon headed the fleet. The race up to number 6 mark under the Gladesville Bridge was made more challenging by a swift in-running tide. The freshening breeze made for a quick run back to number 2 under spinnaker. As we approached #2 and went to drop the spinnaker we were hit by a shy blast out of the north. Chaos ensured with the spinnaker still in place at the mark. Barry (ace bowman as well as owner & skipper) managed to get it fired off the brace and eventually dropped into the cockpit.
The work back to 5 and run to 3 went without incident, well that was until we approached #3. Huey decided the throw in another sharp blast of wind as we attempted to drop the smaller spinnaker. Complicated by the genoa getting stuck on the hoist we again arrived at the mark with the spinnaker still flying. Sorting this we headed off to 6, 3 and a finish that was welcomed by two exhausted genoa grinders.
Handicap places: 1st Farrago, 2nd Wind Falls & 3rd A Fine Balance.
