PS – George’s report last week has made for a hard act to follow.
The day began with a typical summer NSW Sydney harbour forecast a 15 to 20 Knt NE sea breeze for our trip up to South Head YA rounding mark. The three normal antagonists lined up for our trek up the harbour (SF, LEOG & AE). The start was a torrid affair with AE getting the best of the 2 larger competitors (and yes, young George, it was without Bitters, who left the other 2 barrel chested lads a tough assignment). Cris crossing our way out and up to Gladesville Bridge with all 3 boats were very close in a shifting and variant breeze. SF slipped into the lead at Pulpit Pt with LEOG 2nd and AE in 3rd. Competitors stayed close till Goat Island where the 2 larger boats were able to pull out some distance from AE. Onto the harbour, through the aptly named washing machine and into the array of yachts on Sydney harbour [where else would you want to be on a beautiful Saturday afternoon] which was a challenging affair but all boats manage to navigate safely. Around the YA mark 1st was SF, 2nd LEOG, AE 3rd, spinnakers set and off on our way back to PRSC at a brisk pace. Time for a coldie or so I thought, the dilemma being no ice in the esky. This, as you all know, is a huge no no on our boat. Root cause analysis: skipper bought ice and left in one PRSC freezer, Sheethand also bought ice and left in second PRSC freezer. A poor performance by experienced regulars. The trip home was far from relaxing with breeze flicking from shy running and then to square running varying in strength until Long Nose PT with both Adams have to flag their shoots to get around the point with SF spinnaker sheet releasing from the spinnaker making for some swift action to reattach and sail on. Flatter water made for a more relaxing sail back to the club house with positions staying the same all the way back. Scratch results 1st SF, 2nd LEOG, 3rd AE the Handicap results were the same as scratch.
