A keen 15knot easterly greeted us for the first leg to Lukes, low tide 4.09pm, no3 jib sailing, perfect conditions.
At the start FGO hit the line on time and with speed like a bat out of hell and footed fast across the river on starboard, pursued by RBO to windward and then XWP with AFB unusually lagging a bit, short-handed.

FGO pushed up RBO who had to tack away early whilst FGO held on and tacked, then hooked into a nice ENE lift on port, sailing like a witch with speed and height to Searles while RBO sagged down into Abbottsford Bay. Game on. A spirited tacking duel ensued till Betts Bay where RBO sneaked ahead and then stretched out a bit to Lukes – all boats bothered by high windage slow moving party boats and other operatives seemingly possessed by the need to cut across bows at ridiculous speed and closeness, including some given a timely tune up by the water police – many thanks. Guess it’s that time of the year. XWP held on gamely in third and AFB followed, seemingly overpowered a tad.
It was smooth running to Glades albeit very tight as the mark was approached, kites dropped early, then a nice work back to Abbotsford then the run to Frances. Another good work up to Lukes followed, where the first tallship came through very late when we left the door open a tad to make sure to not hit the mark and let them in under us as they tacked from port to stbd and held momentum around the mark. Nice move LOEG but a quick gybe inside and kite set made amends and off we went to Frances again, with FGO, AFB and XWP in hot pursuit. The breeze lightened a bit and the run and work to the finish uneventful.
On hcap it was RBO followed very closely by XWP in a top effort, FGO and AFB.
